At the Pingxi festival in Taiwan’s hills, people crowd the old railway street to paint wishes on paper lanterns — for recovered health, for a good harvest of exam scores, for someone waiting to be met — and release them together into the dark. The sight that stays with visitors is not their own lantern but everyone else’s: hundreds of warm lights, each one a private hope made briefly, anonymously visible.

- Sky lanterns (天燈, kongming lanterns) have carried wishes upward for centuries across China, Taiwan, and Thailand — most famously at the Pingxi Lantern Festival, where thousands rise together each year. A wish is written on the lantern's paper skin; as the flame lifts it into the night, the wish is said to travel where words cannot. Our cloud-sea sky borrows that ritual, minus the fire hazard.

- Anyone who visits this page while your lantern is aloft — wishes are anonymous and public, like lanterns over a night valley. Nothing else is stored: no name, no account, no location. Write accordingly: wishes containing links, contact details, or abusive language are turned back by the wind before they reach the sky.
- How long does a lantern stay in the sky?
- Seven nights. Like its paper ancestors, every lantern burns out — after seven days a wish is deleted from our servers entirely, leaving room in the sky for new ones. If a wish matters enough to repeat, you are welcome to release it again.
- Is there a limit to how many lanterns I can release?
- Five per hour. A lantern is a small ceremony, not a chat stream — the limit keeps the sky readable and each wish deliberate. If the sky asks you for patience, take it as part of the ritual.
