Meaning
The lake holds only so much: limits give life form. Set wise measures in spending and conduct—but bitter, excessive limits fail.
The lake is bounded, and only because it is bounded can it be full — limitation as the precondition of content, not its enemy. The hexagram legislates in both directions with the same firmness: the unlimited life dissipates, and the bitterly over-limited life may not be persevered in; the art is entirely in the calibration.
