Wind disperses the ice on water: rigidity and egotism dissolve. Scatter what divides; gather the people around a sacred center.
The warm wind of spring crossing frozen water: dissolution aimed precisely at what has hardened — grudges, factions, the rigid ego itself. The hexagram pairs the melting with a gathering: as the ice breaks up, the king approaches the temple, because dispersed hardness must be recollected around something sacred or it merely scatters.
